Hera woke the next morning feeling like a new woman. She allowed the cool water of her morning shower to bring some sense back to her skin, she ran her fingers down her bare waist and reminded herself where she drew her power from. Hera had not become a Domme because it came naturally to her. She did it because it was a freedom from the social rules she had learned. The ones that bound her to her life of isolation and blunted emotional ties.

She was born to be a solitary woman. Born to a pair of immigrant parents never quite finding her way into the favor of her peers, Heather had chosen instead to focus her soul on her studies. She had excelled in school with full scholarships, earned her PhD, and now, worked in a tenured position at the university. But the straight and narrow track that had led her to career success was also the one that resulted in her waking up every morning to an empty townhouse. She had the club, of course, her other Dommes and her university coworkers, but the role of emotionally intimate partners was one that would probably never be filled.

With her towel wrapped firmly around her chest, Hera padded to her kitchen and started a pot of coffee. The comforting smell was her backdrop as she collected her (partially graded) midterms and filed them into her bag.

Only recently had she accepted her fate as a bachelorette. At 41 years old, she was secure in her position. She knew what she liked, she sought it out and got it, and she never had to deal with anyone’s bullshit. It was comforting, in a way, to know that she had complete control over her life. There were no rogue players to come and interfere with her carefully laid plans.

Except for Emily. The second she had seen her, she knew there was something different about the way they would fit together.

She pushed the thought from her mind and focused instead on getting ready. Monday mornings weren’t the greatest part of anyone’s life, even for a professional Domme/professor.
